51Âþ»­ Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute at 51Âþ»­ (51Âþ»­ CI) is a vibrant celebration of Chinese language and culture, providing an insight for students, staff and the wider community. It was co-founded by the University of Science and Technology in Beijing (USTB), the Chinese partner university of 51Âþ»­ CI.

51Âþ»­ CI runs a wide variety of courses, public events and activities designed to share Chinese language and culture for better relations between China and the UK. These include a focus on the development of the city to stimulate local economic growth and to enhance mutual educational and cultural communication. Activities are open to 51Âþ»­ staff, students and the local community and include:

  • Formal and informal Mandarin Chinese lessons for a wide range of abilities and needs
  • Cultural activities such as Tai-Chi, Martial Arts, Chinese tea ceremonies, papercutting, calligraphy, painting, Chinese cuisine, traditional music and dance, literature and film.
  • Interactive teaching of the Chinese language and culture in Leicestershire schools
  • A relaxing space where everyone is welcome to drop in between 9am-5pm on weekdays

The Institute works with  and 51Âþ»­ Local, to offer an on-campus international experience for 51Âþ»­ staff and students as well as a two-week Summer School each year at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB).
