This accessibility statement applies to the dmu.ac.uk website.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some of our Inline frames (iframes) do not have a text alternative  - this fails on WCAG 2.1 success criteria and . The majority of instances of this issue are related to the use of an historic component used to display video content. We have built a replacement version of this component and are in the process of updating all instances across the website. We plan to resolve this issue by October 2022.
  • Some of the links on our website do not have a text alternative  - this fails on WCAG 2.1 success criteria . We are reviewing and updating web content where this issue has been identified. In several instances this issue is due to an historic implementation of image galleries. We have built a component to replace this implementation and are in the process of updating all instances across the website. We plan to resolve this issue by December 2022.
  • Some of our forms use images of text without a text alternative as an input; some other fields do not have labels in their coding; and the focus is not visible on some form dropdown boxes. There is also an issue with some of our forms where the page has an auto-refresh in place. These issues mean these forms fail on WCAG 2.1 success criteria , , , , and . These forms are delivered via a third-party system and we are working with our provider to resolve these issues. We plan to resolve this issue by October 2022. 
  • At a 200% zoom level the focus is not visible on some links in our website footer. This issue means this area of the website fails on WCAG 2.1 success criteria . We plan to resolve this issue by October 2022.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

 

Some of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be fully accessible to a screen reader. 

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents that we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

 

Captioning of live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations, but wherever possible we will caption live video content.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We use an automated testing tool to regularly check the accessibility of the dmu.ac.uk website. Tests are run once a week and the tool tests against WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

The Web and Digital team review accessibility reports and, as required, schedule activity to make accessibility improvements.

This statement was prepared on 27 May 2020. It was last reviewed on 5 August 2022.

This website was last tested on 4 August 2022. The test was carried out using the Siteimprove tool, crawling over 7000 webpages.

Manual testing of the website was also undertaken during July 2022.
